Loss is something we all have to deal with. But few of us are taught how to heal from these difficult experiences—a divorce, an accident, a miscarriage, a cancer diagnosis, losing the love of your life, or the death of a loved one.

Today on The Doctor’s Farmacy, I talk with my good friend, Kris Carr, about some of the greatest lessons she has learned through her own grief, and how even the most difficult losses can reveal a roadmap to our next chapter of fully living.

Kris Carr is a multiple New York Times best-selling author, wellness activist, and cancer thriver. She’s been called a “force of nature” by O magazine and was named a “new role model” by The New York Times. Kris is also a member of Oprah’s SuperSoul 100, a group of the most influential thought leaders today. Other media appearances include Good Morning America, The Today Show, and The Oprah Winfrey Show. She and her work have been featured in Glamour, Prevention, Scientific American, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, and other national publications. Kris has helped millions of people take charge of their health and live like they mean it through her award-winning blog, books, online courses, and membership communities.

“In therapy for 30 years”! My goodness, that is not a good role model for most of us.

Dr. Hyman… I knocked off sugar and processed foods for 6 weeks and lost ten lbs without exercise. Also my heart rate has dropped more than 10 beats a minute! I am 58 and in a wheel chair. I am hoping to lose more and be able to get in the pool again for exercise. I am not as hungry as I was before eating all the sugar.

Great conversation with two of my favorite people! Can’t wait to read Kris’s new book! ♥

  • Lara O'neal says:

A little too much levity here. With all the laughter it diminishes the hard work that we have to do in a recovery process. Why is that not addressed here. I’m a childhood trauma survivor and have had to do 20 years of research on toxic family dynamics and going no contact from my family of origin. The betrayal alone coming from my parents and 6 younger siblings is shocking when u experience it even when the books and therapists tell u this will happen. Which is grief personified and lasts a lifetime to some degree. I believe depression is prolonged grieving.
